Silk or Mink lashes – what is the difference?

We often get the question;  do you use mink or silk lashes?

There isn’t a nice and short answer to this question.
All lashes for lash extensions are made from a material called PBT – Polybutylene terephthalate, a thermoplastic, a type of polyester.
It is the same material you have in all soft synthetic brushes, makeup brushes, toothbrushes and so on.
The PBT is very heat resistant and mechanically strong and therefore widely used for Eyelash extension fibers.

The quality of eyelash extension fibers amongst manufacturers can vary dramatically.
At Lashia we use the highest quality PBT fiber in the lashes we stock. Our manufacturer has named our lashes "silk", due to the smooth finish and the matte, soft look. Some manufacturers' lash fibers are coated in a glossy finish, giving them a shiny, more artificial/plastic feeling.

So sorry guys, mink or silk, it’s not that fancy. It’s just about what your manufacturer choose to called them. The quality varies dramatically and the softness depends on thickness and coating agents.

Feel free to ask us anything product related, we are happy to help.
